Introducing the Newborn Honey Pot

Many parents prefer to purchase a specific newborn nappy that will fit straight from birth. While OSFM nappies can fit many babies, newborn nappies fit with greater ease and less bulk on small babies.

We have therefore developed our Newborn Honeypot nappies.

These nappies are a fitted nappy with plenty of adjustment that will fit from 2-6+ kg.

The nappies are made from a soft bamboo velour and bamboo fleece. The nappies are super soft and can be used with or without a cover. A cover must be used to make the nappy waterproof, and for extra containment of newborn poos.

Each nappy features 4 absorbent layers through the wet zone. The whole nappy is absorbent so this also gives extra benefits over a AI2 or AIO style where there is only absorbent layers in the wet zone.

The nappy features a tongue of fabric that lifts for faster and easier drying time.

The fabric against the skin is a natural bamboo fleece. No synthetic fabric is used in the nappy.

On the outside of the nappy there is bamboo velour which is very soft. The nappies come in a choice of colours.

The nappies can snap down to accomodate the umbilical cord in the early days.

Size adjustment works by finding the correct leg setting. You have three row of snaps to choose from to get the best fit for your baby. Premmie babies may need the very bottom level of snaps, where as larger newborns will start on a higher fitting level.

Where you use the lower two rows of snaps you can fold the top over the nappy over for a neater fit.
To make the nappy waterproof and give better protection against newborn poo leaks, use a honey pot newborn cover. These covers can also be used with newborn prefolds, a folded birdseye flat or any other absorbency that fits. They give a nice trim fit for small babies and secure with velcro closures for a quick change and easy fitting.

New hanging wet bag

We love our practical accessories and this is another one to the collection.

Our wet bag is 73x42cm. It has two choices of handle use with a sewn double handle to hang or a long handle that can clip on to a towel rack or fixed hanger. Each bag has two layers of PUL fabric making it nice and thick and much better security from leaks.  Nice large sturdy zippers for easy use.

These have so many purposes making them versatile and even giving them a life beyond babies. Just a few ideas:

  • Dirty clothes bag - save space and hang dirty clothes on the back of the bathroom door or bedroom door.
  • Beach/Pool bag. Will carry the wet towels, swimmers and bits and pieces.
  • Daycare bag for clothes, nappies etc.
  • Dirty nappy pail - pop it in the nursery to collect your cloth nappies through out the days.

Using the snap handle
Towel racks and solid bars require the handle to be unsnapped, wrapped and resnapped to hold the bag in place. This versatility means you can hang these off almost anything!

Black Handles
Double handles to carry with or hang. Nice strong handles that you can pop the bag on any hook or handle with minimal effort.

Dealing with nappy rash in cloth nappies

Nappy rash. Its something almost every baby will inevitably experience. But why? There are plenty of causes for nappy rash, and lots of ways to help stop it happening.

We always recommend seeing a doctor to rule out any nasty rash causes, but we have discussed below some of the common reasons we see nappy rash in cloth nappies.

1. Leaving on a wet nappy too long
This is the main reason babies get irritated. Sitting in a wet nappy for too long. We recommend changing every 3 hours (or aiming to).

Helping protect their skin with a cream can also help. We love CJ's Butter as a preventative cream and for when bub has a rash. This cream is an oil based recipe, so it helps to create a protective layer on top of the skin. I particularly love how easy it makes cleaning up dirty nappies and all the mess wipes off much easier due to this oily layer. CJ's can help reduce redness and also prevent rashes occurring.

2. Irritation to the nappy fabric
Some babies bottoms do not like synthetics. So the stay dry layer on most cloth nappies can irritate them. This generally looks like a reddening of the skin all over the bottom.

You have a couple of choices.

  •  For a suspected suede cloth reaction, try putting the natural fabric straight against the skin. In the Baby Bare nappies you can do this by putting the booster on top in your Bare Cub nappies, and in the Teddy you can fold the bamboo to be on top.
  • You can use a liner of a different fabric to the nappy lining. Liners are available in a bunch of different fabrics. Microfleece is very common and popular as its affordable, easy to acquire and often works really well. Silk liners are great but the cost is expensive so for many they are a last resort. There is also disposable liners in cotton, viscose or bamboo (although many children can also react to these so keep an eye out).

3. Reaction to the washing powder, or routine
Some children rash up from different washing detergents or from nappies insufficiently cleaned. Make sure nappies look clean and smell clean. They should not go grey or brown from use but stay relatively white. If your child does react you can try a different detergent for a few washes to rule out whether the detergent is affecting them.

Honey Pots for Night Time

Are you looking for a flexible night nappy?

Our Honey Pots give you just this. A nappy that is super absorbent with plenty of options for boosting.

The Honey Pot is a fitted nappy. This means it is made of fully absorbent material with no built in waterproofing. So while it looks just like a Bare Cub nappy, that outside is made of absorbent bamboo rather than minky and suede cloth - this makes it more absorbent.

Inside the nappy you will find a long snake like insert topped with bamboo velour, concealing 2 other layers of bamboo fleece (folded in half adds 6 layers).
The Honey Pot - Bamboo outer, long folded over bamboo insert inside.

This can be used as a day nappy on its own. In summer, no cover is needed for running around the yard or house. To be waterproof under cloths and for naps add a waterproof Honey Wrap.

So, how about the night time?

At night time, add a trifold booster. Adding this gives you 14 lovely layers of bamboo.

If this isn't enough, you can add another booster or insert either inside or outside the nappy (between the nappy and the cover).

An extra insert or booster can add anywhere from 3-6 more layers.

The ability to add these extra layers allows you to really customise how much absorbency you need. The double gusseted cover enables this extra boosting as the gussets give you lots of extra room inside the nappy to keep boosting and hold everything in place.

The Honey Pot fits snuggly in the Honey Wrap ready for a super absorbent and waterproof combination.

The double gussets pop up to give extra room in the nappy for boosting and a nice leg seal.

Your Honey Pot is snuggled up in the Honey Wrap ready for bed (your baby should also be inside here!)

PUL versus Minky

We are often asked the difference between our Silky/PUL nappies and our Minky.

Both are water resistant and do not require any extra cover.

PUL is a flay/smooth Polyester fabric and Minky is a fluffy fabric with a 2.5mm pile to it. It is softer, much like a velour feel.

Some parents prefer the feel to one over the other. Others prefer the look of one fabric over the other. Essentially, both function the same but look and feel different.

Close look at this minky nappy shows the fluffy pile.
This nappy is PUL. You can see it is smooth and has a slight shine to it.

Introducing the Winter Baby Bare Limited Edition Prints

We know you all love new prints. We love to keep them coming so there is always new choice and fresh options available.

We are particularly excited with the newest release of 14 Prints and some new colours. Many of our prints are inspired by our own family. Some come from customer suggestions, and other because we can't resist the cuteness!

We are extremely proud of our prints, as they are exclusive to Baby Bare and another way we offer our customers a unique product that is truely Baby Bare!

Blossom (PUL)
This was the most asked after print at our recent expo. We think its going to be quite popular, so if you want one - don't wait!

Carousel (minky)
Horses are a big favourite amongst our own little girls. We couldn't resist the classic carousel making it onto one of our nappies.

Divine (Minky)
A new colour twist in the extremely popular Bella Print released last year. This is a beautiful neutral print.

Big Top (PUL)
Featuring the Big Top, Elephants, clowns and even little tickets that say Baby Bare.

Fox Trot (PUL)
Foxes are extremely popular. This cute little fox print is a lovely neutral option.

Mosaic
We love the neutral colours in this nappy.

Pearfect (minky)
Fruit is all the fashion! We have been being asked for more fruit themed nappies.

 Toucans (PUL)
Rainbow toucans are always a favourite. We love the variation in colour on this print. If you grab a couple, you will be sure to find they look quite different depending on where on the fabric its been cut.

Woodland (minky)
We love this new print, not just because its cute but because of the size of the characters. Depending on the nappy you might find it features a Hedgehog, squirells, moose or bears. You can see the full print in the bag below, and then the sections you might get in the nappy below.

Sweet Stripes
Gorgeous neutral colours make this a nappy unique. Plenty of colour variation through the pattern also makes each nappy an individual.

Racoon Ranger (minky)
These little guys are just too cute hiding out between the trees.
Puppy Tails (PUL)
Can you find your dog amongst the crowd?

Sweet colours of coral, mint and yellow. We love this geometric pattern.
New Starz Range in Minky
We are bringing out 3 nappies with embossed star patterns in the minky. We absolutely love these as a bit of a twist to the solid colour nappies. We hope to look at bringing out more in the future if they prove as popular as we hope.
